This family-owned smokehouse serves up an inviting dining atmosphere that’s both warm and welcoming, making it perfect for casual gatherings, family outings, or anyone craving boldly spiced Southern comfort food.

Once you step inside, the tantalizing aroma of slow-smoked meats and freshly prepared Cajun classics immediately whets the appetite. The menu reads like a love letter to the bayou, featuring must-try signature dishes such as the Smokehouse Tatties – tender, smoky potatoes bursting with flavor – and the Red Beans and Rice, a hearty, soulful dish that’s rich, well-seasoned, and deeply satisfying. If seafood calls your name, the Jumbo Coconut Shrimp offers a perfectly crisp, golden coating that pairs beautifully with a subtly sweet coconut flavor, outshining even some of the most popular chain seafood dishes.

The Bayou Cajun Smokehouse doesn’t stop at main courses. Their selection of lagniappe (little extras) like Cajun Fried Pickles, Fried Gator Tail, and Smoked Chicken Wings offer bold, satisfying bites that complement any meal perfectly. And for those who like variety, the tacos—featuring shrimp, fresh catch, or catfish—are a bright, flavorful option that beautifully showcases the restaurant's seafood prowess.

Dining here feels like an immersive experience—each dish bursts with authentic Cajun spices, smoky undertones, and fresh ingredients, made with undeniable expertise and passion. The portion sizes are generous, inviting sharing and second helpings, a fact noted fondly by many patrons. The service, highlighted by attentive and friendly staff like the ever-praised waitress Jennifer, rounds out the experience with warmth and genuine hospitality.

Customers rave about their visits, with Jeremy Smith calling it “ridiculously large portions” and an absolute must-try for anyone in the Cape Girardeau area, while Sarah Hinrichs was impressed by the fork-tender pork steak and perfectly cooked blackened chicken. Matt Sullivan couldn’t say enough about the “absolute perfection” of the pork steak and gumbo, and G Dasan regards it as a “very hidden treasure” whose coconut shrimp “blows Red Lobster’s out of the water.” Even those sensitive to smoky environments appreciate the menu’s quality and pricing, making it a well-rounded go-to spot for Cajun flavor adventurers.

We have eaten here in the past and it was delicious, so we decided to bring family from out of town to show them what it's all about. They were not disappointed! We had the Smokehouse Tatties to start, then on the the BBQ platter, Coconut Shrimp, and Gumbo. So much flavor and the portions are ridiculously large! If you're in Cape Girardeau or the surrounding area, it's definitely worth the drive to Pocahontas. Google Maps will sometimes take you in the wrong direction. It's worth searching out this place. The Pilot House, Port Cape, and all the other BBQ places in Cape are definitely delicious, but this place has a different take on BBQ and other dishes. They also have an outdoor pavilion and live music weekly. We'll definitely be back!

2025 Updated : If smoking is allowed, no one was smoking this evening. Had a very nice meal. 2024 Tonight, the food was very good. Price was awesome, and rmquick service. Our waitress , Jennifer, was delightful. I would have actually given this a 4.5 if possible. The -5 was it was a little too smoky for my sinuses. Wish they had a better ventilation system to clear the cigarette smoke. We were on a non-smoking side, as far as you can get from the smoking section, and it was still a little too much for me. In all fairness, I am previous smoker and I am now very sensitive to smoke. Will still be going back.

This amazing family owned restaurant is a VERY hidden treasure located 3 mi E of exit 111 in Pocahontas, MO. Everything we’ve had there has been perfectly prepared and full of flavor, especially our favorite dish…coconut shrimp (so good it blows Red Lobster’s coconut shrimp out of the water!). Other dishes not to

Comfortable local place with cold beer (drafts ~$6 for 22 oz pours) and a wide variety of BBQ and Cajun food. Service is friendly; nothing is too fancy, but it's clean. We were starving and shared the $15 smokehouse tatties (crispy fried potatoes) nacho plate as an appetizer. Glad we didn't order more food because it was plenty for two people. It includes several of their BBQ meats and sausage over the potatoes with a Cajun BBQ sauce and salsa. Everything was made in-house. I would have given five stars, but when they present you with the iPad for payment, a 25% tip is automatically selected, with a minimum choice of 20% unless you ask her to change it. That's pretty ballsy, even if the service is outstanding.

I am here in town for a while and this place was recommended to me! Wowwwwww!!! The food is absolutely amazing!! The gumbo is delicious along with the red beans and rice-truly authentic! The atmosphere feels like you are right at home in your living room-it is the local spot! And the Thursday night bingo is a BLAST!!! If you are looking to just get out you must come! You will not be disappointed! The girls behind the bar are the best and they treat you like family! Do not miss out if you are visiting Jackson! :-)
